You never know what might be creeping up behind you. Dialogue and complex literary elements such as symbolism, imagery, and theme are woven between the text and images presented on the graphic novel page; the reader must synthesize these elements to understand the story being told. It’s the brainchild of Josh Elder, another busy comics apostle and founder of Reading with Pictures, a venture that is working to develop a textbook in comics form for school use.

In recent years Pratchett has said that while the entire novel was a collaborative effort and most of the ideas could be credited to both of them, Pratchett did a larger portion of writing and editing if for no other reason than Gaiman's scheduled involvement with Sandman. Hand out pages from graphic novels that use onomatopoeia, and have the students create their own three- to four-panel comic strips using similar words. (Grades 6–8) Provide students with a collection of images and portraits of the various heroes and villains from an array of graphic novels. However, a few entries were included because we recognize their extreme popularity among young readers.
