They have a flexibility and range in tone which is more suited to chamber music than to solo work with an orchestra. I'm not saying by any means they are at the same level as well made pro European instruments but at the 'student' level they do appear to be making more well rounded instruments these days. Also put a Wittner polycarbonate tailpeice on it to give it all of the acoustic help possible. It is also the smallest out of all the strings and has the highest pitch.

The D and G strings carry a tighter and more powerful bass, with about the widest amplitude of sound you can get. The 6th Grade Orchestra participated as an “Easy” level and received Straight Distinguished Ratings (4 total). They have rich undertones and a nice timbre range for synthetic strings, good projection with less tension than other strings, and a good responsiveness. Inserting phrase marks, crescendi, and so on, is also unpredictable. On the open string, it will have no vibrato. Very fine sounding, responsive and attractive violin of superior quality workmanship, tone and parts. Pupil of Franz Anton Ernst at Gotha; settled in Weimar; maker to the Court; worked also in Halle, Leipzig, Magdeburg, Berlin, and Jena; fine repairer, but made excellent violins and violoncellos. He exhibited a quintet of instruments in London, 1862; tone excellent. Double stops allow for more notes in the chord, however if the notes required are impractical the parts can be split (divisi) when you have a large enough section, e.g. where there are two notes on a 1st violin part half the players can be directed to play one note and half the other.
